A lot going on

It’s the last day of the month, Halloween to be exact, and I just don’t know where the time went.

We were happy to support Rocky Mountain Therapy Dogs this month. They are a nonprofit dedicated to helping the communities with certified therapy dog visits where needed. Skip Thomas Adventures helped provide books for students and therapy teams at libraries, schools, Primary Children’s Hospital, and senior centers.

The Fall Festival at the Benson Grist Mill in Stansbury Park was our last outdoor event of the year and we were blessed with sunny days and warm weather. After my booth was set up, I stopped at the coffee truck first and ordered a pumpkin latte before the sun rose. This mini carnival of sorts, minus the rides of course, is a fun event that I always look forward to right here in my own backyard. It’s always nice to see the familiar faces of my vendor buddies and share laughs and tell stories. There are lots of great food and craft vendors that show up each year. I support my favorites and come home with bread and honey, caramel corn and kettle corn, and a few handmade sewn items. There is a certain comradery among us, especially the friendships formed throughout the years with my talented “sisters.” It’s like going home for a visit. They support me and I support them. This was also the last weekend of the Farmers Market selling their fruits and vegetables.

October’s leaves are losing their color, and the trees are dropping them as fast as they can. The rain has been steady, unusual for us, and the temps are falling teasing us of what’s coming. It was time to winterize or fall clean-up as I like to call it. The sprinklers are shut off, the motorhome emptied and covered, and the yard mowed one more time. My flower gardens are pruned, mulched, and ready for a winter nap. The bikes are back on their racks and that makes me sad to think I’ll be indoors soon or back at the gym. The outdoor table is disassembled and put away, the chairs are stacked and covered, and the firepit is ready for a whiskey around a hot fire.

Daylight Savings Time ends tonight and that’s another reminder of a season getting ready to take over soon. There is something comforting about it though, a little extra time in the morning to stay cozy in bed longer. I love the way the sun creeps across the sky in the afternoon searching for its perfect resting place for the evening. The night sky always seems crisper and clearer, making the stars sharper and brighter. I also love raking leaves and walking in them making them crunch, crunch, crunch beneath my feet. I love the smell of them and wood burning somewhere in the distance. Give me a thick sweatshirt, leggings, and a warm pair of hiking boots and I’m a happy camper!

One last thing, I love sports! The World Series just ended leaving the Milwaukee Brewers the 2026 MLB champs. Congrats to all of them and the Tampa Bay Rays. The games were exciting to watch and a great way to end the baseball season. Now I try not to miss another of my favorites playing this season, the Utah Mammoth hockey team. It’s awesome to watch our very own pro team right here in Utah. And of course, my other favorite sport, football. Nothing says fall like football. Go Pats! Go Utes!

That’s it for October. I hope you all had as much fun as I did. And until next time,

God bless and stay safe.
