With the summer ending and fall starting this month, there have been some last hoorahs. One last market, one last camp trip, one last star party, and hooray for the last of the hot weather!
Petapalooza was a huge success again this year. Many rescue groups showed up with cats and dogs looking for forever homes. At the end of the day, 181 animals were adopted and given a second chance for life and love!
With all the fires this summer and the temps in the triple digits, it was almost impossible to go anywhere and enjoy the outdoors. Tornados, lightning strikes, monsoons, and flash floods were the unusual norm this year. Utah isn’t used to this kind of weather. The reservoirs are dangerously low as water was taken from them to put out fires. We went from one extreme to another.
We got lucky picking the week we did for camping in Millsite State Park. The week before we came, thunderstorms and floods washed away some of the higher up campsites making the riverbanks overflow with mud and debris. Though the dark clouds and lightning prevailed through some nights we were there, we saw some beautiful dark storm clouds, rainbows, sunrises, and sunsets. It was a beautiful clear night for the full moon which was gorgeous over the lake. Golf was a challenge as the greens were so dry. But it was still a very pretty course over desert canyons. We met up with some folks we had met last year as well as meeting some new interesting and forever friends this year. Trial rides were great and so was the fishing.
The drone show at the Porter Way Park finalized Stansbury Days this year. Lantis Fireworks put on a very personalized show just for Stansbury Park. The clear night was perfect with cool temps and a community that joined together.
The fall leaves are gorgeous and at their peak right now. The Alpine Loop, Guardsmans Pass, and the Mirror Lake Highway are three amazing roads to travel and take in the beauty of God’s painting. Also, Monte Cristo and the ski resorts don’t disappoint either! There are so many places to leaf-peep right now in this region. I only wish the colors would last a lot longer.
That’s it for now. I wish you all a happy fall and we’ll share more next time.
God bless and stay safe.
