Al Unser, Jr. drove the Penske PC 23 in 1994 to win the Indianapolis 500 from Pole Position. Built by Team Penske, this car was powered by the secretly developed Ilmor-Mercedes-Benz 500i pushrod engine. Due to it’s immense horsepower (1,000 HP), it was nicknamed “The Beast.” In the same year, Al Unser, Jr. also won the 1994 CART IndyCar championship.
